First Tip! - How to control your home computer from anywhere (that has internet access)

Hello All, and welcome to my first tip!  <(^_^)>

A lot of you may already know how to do this, but I find it to be VERY useful to be able to log into your computer at home from wherever you are, and I feel that this is something everyone should know how to do!

Let me start by saying there are multiple methods of remotely controlling your home (or work) computer. I will only cover one of them here (the ones I find to be the easiest).

LogMeIn.com -

I can't say this is particularly my most favorite method, however I find it to be one of the easiest. To get started, simply go to http://www.logmein.com and register a new (free) account.

The web page should look something like the image below. You'll notice there is a "Create an account" button directly below the Login field on the far right side of the page. Click it and you'll begin the registration process.

On the next page, select the option to "Access computers remotely" and a you will see a pop-up that says "Create Account"

Fill in your information (Email, desired password, and Country). Feel free to UNcheck the box that says "Send me news about LogMeIn, upgrades and my account." unless you want to get the occasional email from them. Then click "Continue."

Immediately after doing so, you'll be prompted to download and install LogMeIn. This program is required, and is what gives you access to your computer from a remote location. Click the Download button, and run the "LogMeIn.msi" file that it gives you. Follow the steps to complete the installation (you'll be asked to give your computer a name, create a passcode, etc).

After the program has installed successfully, you can return to your web browser and click the "Go to My Computers" button on the remaining pop-up. There you will find a list of computers (well, one assuming you haven't installed this program on other computers).

Underneath the name you gave your computer you will see a button just like the one below. Click it and you will begin the log in process to take control of your computer.
This step of course isn't actually needed right now since it's likely that you're still sitting at the computer that you JUST installed this program on. Instead, take a walk to a different computer in your house, go back to logmein.com, and give it a test drive. Pretty Neat!

The program that is installed is simply a little gateway that keeps in contact with LogMeIn's servers so that you will always have access to your computer (as long as it's turned on and plugged into the internet at least).

Stay tuned for my next tip! I hope you all enjoyed this one :-)
